This wedding is extra near and dear to our hearts because Ben’s little sister Stephanie was the bride! If you know Stephanie & Ryan, you know how prayerful they are so it was no surprise when they decided that they wanted to get married on the Feast of the Holy Family.
This catholic feast day points directly to Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus and is always celebrated in December on the Sunday following Christmas. It’s natural for couples who are engaged to seek advice from those in successful, joyful marriages. Who better to model their own marriage after than Mary & Joseph? A woman who lived her life full of grace and perfectly aligned to God’s will and a man who served, worked, and protected his wife and son.
The only small difference between these two and the Holy Family is that Joseph was silent and Ryan is an infamous conversationalist. It was brought up a half dozen times in the loving humor of friends and family during the toasts and speeches throughout the weekend.
They got married at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the hometown parish where Stephanie grew up. It added a sweet and sentimental tone to the whole day. After they were announced husband and wife, we headed to Plymouth Creek Center for the reception where Ryan had a special surprise waiting for Stephanie – washing her feet. Ryan’s brother brought out a basin, towel, and pitcher of water to Ryan as he lead his new wife to the dance floor. She slipped off her heels and wiped the tears from her eyes as she witnessed her husband so visibly serving her the same way that Christ served the apostles at the last supper. This is clear foreshadowing to the life of service Ryan will bring to their marriage.
As the reception got going, another surprise was waiting for them on the dance floor. Stephanie’s older sister Angela taught the whole wedding party the choreographed dance to Thriller and in a flash mob-like fashion they all approached the dance floor, arms raised. It’s one of those moments that makes us wish we were also videographers so that we could show you the glory of that dance in full definition. Nonetheless we were so honored to be able to photograph this day for our family and pray that the holy family does intercede for these two in their marriage. Congrats, Stephanie & Ryan!
